MADDY’S STORY
Bre Hanks
"I haven’t experienced much racism until last year when 8 officers came into my home and took me to jail after saving a stray dog. I believed that the hate of a person because of the color of their skin was in our past not our future. I was extremely embarrassed & ashamed.
I was verbally abused by an officer for 30 minutes on the way to jail. I was denied the right to nurse my baby, I was handcuffed in front of my family, and IN FRONT OF MY LITTLE GIRL! I then was placed in a cop car in front of my neighbors & friends, I was called awful names & treated like I was worthless.
Why? Because my skin was a different color than theirs? This experience wrote a chapter in my life I never thought would be written. It opened my eyes to what was going on & I knew we could do better.
Yet I also want you to know I was raised by a mom who served our community as an officer for over 15 years before she retired! She loved her community & her people! I know a majority of officers are the same! They serve their communities out of love! I know in my heart, not all officers are racist & there are many of them standing with you at this time as you mourn & grieve over what has happened!
I stand with you #bluelivesmatter
I stand with you #blacklivesmatter
I STAND FOR #alllivesmatter
MY HEART IS BREAKING FOR OUR 🌎💔 Now is the time to start healing, to find peace, to come to TOGETHER, & to love one another! 🤟🏻🤟🏼🤟🏽🤟🏾🤟🏿 Fighting hate with hate won’t help! WE ALL deserve so much better than this! Change starts in our ❤️and then our 🏡 with our families. So go home, love your families, & educate them so we can have a better tomorrow!"
